2014 IKEA Catalog Puts Furniture in Your Home with Augmented Reality

If we are all being honest augmented reality has never really evolved into anything more than a gimmick with very few examples of really great uses of the technology. But IKEA has once again put out a great use of technology with their 2014 IKEA catalog that uses AR to let you see how their furniture will look in your home.

You use a special app to scan a page in the catalog, place the magazine on the ground as the AR marker where you want the furniture and choose a product. You will then see how the table, chair or sofa will really look in the room. I think that this type of application of AR still has huge potential for online retailers by giving them the ability to make a virtual shopping experience feel more tangible.
