Here are the things that I think are worth reading and checking out this week:
mem:o iPad app
I’ve recently become fascinated with the new mem:o iPad app which is a unique data visualization tool you can use to for pretty much anything. This means that instead of having your data in a boring spreadsheet it puts them into simple circle based visualizations that are both really good looking but also really functional. I think the app is a great example of how great design and UI can turn something even as simple as a spreadsheet data into something beautiful and highly usable. The Right Innovation Mindset Can Take You from Idea to Impact
Anyone who has ever done anything creative knows that there is always the challenge of moving from the 1 percent of inspiration to the 99 percent of the execution. There have been a lot of article written about this challenge and Behnace has built an entire business around trying to help with this problem. I thought this article that was recently published in the Harvard Business Review does a nice job of outlining some concrete things you can do to help in this process. The Ultimate Web Design Workspace for Photoshop
Over the years I have found that few things are a personal to a digital designer as the way they have their Photoshop workspace configured. But I recently read this article from Jacob Cass where he made a case for why he thought he had created the ultimate workspace for web design. I downloaded the workspace, tried it out and while I didn’t love everything there were definitely a few new things that I picked up for my own Photoshop workspace. Read the article and download the workspace for yourself here.
Screenhero – Collaborative Screen Sharing
I recently found a really interesting collaboration tool called Screenhero that actually lets you collaborate with someone else with you both using the same screen at the same time. I think it has huge potential for being able to work on a design with another artist or with a junior designer when you are not both in the same location. Read more and download the app here.
