SPG app now on Google Glass

Today we introduced a new SPG app that is the first from a hospitality company to leverage this emerging, wearable technology platform. Creating new ways to be closer to its guests, Starwood’s new SPG app for Google Glass extends the company’s leadership and adoption of the latest digital technologies.

The entire SPG for Glass app was designed specifically for Google Glass to take advantage of its unique form factor and functionality. This meant that the functionality we had created for our smartphone apps had to be completely rethought with more minimal content for Glass’ small screen, simpler user flows that could be controlled with voice commands or swipes and a content architecture that could work with Glass users unique information needs.

SPG for Glass lets you search through Starwood’s over 1,100 luxury hotels and resorts through the ‘ok glass’ menu. Users can search near their current location, by destination, airport code or hotel name. Search results are then displayed as a timeline where users can call the hotel, get turn-by-turn directions and see photos of the hotel and local area.

SPG for Glass also bring our state-aware concept to Google Glass by keeping users up to date upcoming stays as 72 hours before an upcoming stay SPG for Glass will automatically add the hotel and all of it’s information into your timeline so you can easily get turn-by-turn directions, call the hotel or see what your room will look like. Users are also kept up to date on all of their SPG activity as any changes to their account will automatically appear in their timeline.

The release of the SPG app for Google Glass beta product allows the Google Explorer network to give direct feedback to Starwood’s design and development teams, providing deeper insight into how different channels are used and what makes them meaningful to users. This insight, coupled with the in-house tech talent, will allow Starwood to continue enhancing the SPG app for Google Glass and develop other wearable technology products that best respond to the desires of the SPG community and further cement Starwood’s reputation as a leader in digital innovation.
